Hi, I'm Jen.

A Summerville Backyard Wedding

Jan 25, 2023

Choosing a Summerville backyard wedding was an easy decision for Reeves and Leo. Reeves’ family is from Summerville and oh how my heart loved all the many layers of meaning these locations brought for their wedding day.

But it was actually photographing Reeves and Leo’s epic proposal that actually bonded us forever! And by epic I mean, EPIC. Cliff Notes: The ring was accidentally LOST. IN THE SAND. And after HOURS of searching, we FOUND IT! (Check out their full proposal story here!) Talk about an emotional rollercoaster of a night! From sweet joy of Reeves saying YES to Leo … to losing the ring and then finding it … it was a night I’ll never forget! And this story made their wedding day even more special to photograph their Summerville backyard wedding!

They got married on the same sweet downtown Summerville street she grew up on.

What could possibly be sweeter than getting ready in your childhood home? From her getting ready location, the church they shared their vows, to partying the night away – their whole wedding celebration took place on the very street she grew up on!

Now the private residence of her Grandmother, Reeves was lucky enough to get ready in the very home she grew up in! It was so much fun seeing all the girls getting hair and makeup inside this darling cottage located in the heart of Summerville.

And I’ll be honest, I was fighting some major tears as we photographed all her bridal portraits there on the porch and front steps of her home. I just think of all the memories from her childhood made in this home. Then fast forward to wearing the gown of you dreams and walking down the steps and down the street to marry your best friend!

PRO TIP: Consider the drive time between ceremony + reception locations!

It’s a win when your getting ready location, ceremony, and reception are all on the same street! Having everything so close meant that we were really able to maximize Reeves and Leo’s timeline. On their wedding day, it was so important for them to see each for the first time as she walked down the aisle. (And let me say, St. Paul’s Summerville was such a dream church for their ceremony!!) Since everything was located so close, we were able to photograph their family portraits and husband + wife portraits after the ceremony. They rocked their timeline and were able to make it to the reception as the sun was setting.

Oh the southern charm of a two story, wrap around porch! Her mother’s home was a perfect backdrop for their celebration! I had so much fun photographing the incredible evening toasting, dancing, and capturing their first memories together as husband and wife!
