Charleston wedding + family photographer here! Welcome to my blog, a journal where I share all-the-pretty details, stories, and even a few tips. Stay a while and say hello!

Hi, I'm Jen.

A French Blue Charleston Wedding at The Gadsden House

Apr 8, 2021

There’s nothing like a spring Charleston wedding at The Gadsden House!  Madison and Brian call Ohio home, but wanted to getaway and celebrate their wedding day in a warmer destination.  From my first phone call with Madison and her sweet mom, Michelle, these two felt like friends.  Kindred spirits, indeed!  Needless to say, I was so excited that they chose one of the newest and most charming wedding venues located in downtown Charleston.  When Michelle shared that she was also a wedding planner, I just knew every detail would be perfection!

Mac & B Events brought their dreamy, dusty blue Charleston wedding to life at The Gadsden House.

Carri, the owner and lead wedding planner for Charleston’s Mac & B Events, has been a long time friend both in and out of the wedding industry.  She and her newest team member, Ashley, were the perfect fit for bringing their classic, dusty blue and white, wedding vision to life.  (Ashley is AMAZING and I’m so excited that she’s joined the Mac &B team!)

Each and every detail of the day was perfectly charming, sophisticated, approachable, stunning, but also so thoughtfully curated.  Madison chose light blue table linens accented with a lace overlay and it was just stunning paired with their French inspired florals.

From the very first image I took, I knew it was going to be an incredible day!

The very first image I took upon arrival is the very first image on this blog post … and as soon as I took it, I knew it was going to be an insanely gorgeous wedding day.  I had so much fun styling their details as everyone was getting ready.

Fun fact: I was so excited to try something new for their detail photos, instead of using my standard white flat lay.  I collaborated with my live wedding painter husband, Ben of Wed on Canvas, and together we created a custom board!  The blue and white abstract painterly backdrop was absolute perfection!  Needless to say, this will not be the last flat lay collaboration!

We let the timeline breathe, making space for the emotional moments.

Yes! Every detail of Madison and Brian’s wedding day was perfection … but what I will take away along with the beauty visually is the beauty of their relationship and their incredible family and friends that surround them.  I am so thankful that our timeline allowed grace for the emotional moments.  Madison’s reveal with her Father was so beautiful and I’ll never forget the look on his face and sweet embrace.  And oh my heavens, Brian’s reaction during their First Look together had us all crying.  The Gadsden House is a perfect blank canvas to photograph each of these unforgettable moments!

Let’s talk about the Blue Figaro!

The Blue Figaro was quite possibly the detail I was most excited about!  When we learned that the ever popular “Pink Figgy” was booked, Carri from Mac & B said “I wish we could find a blue one!” I’m all about connections.  I emailed a friend in the transportation world and asked if Lowcountry Valetby chance had a blue Figaro.  Miraculously, THEY HAD ONE!  This particular car isn’t part of their normal wedding fleet of cars available.  But somehow, Michelle was able to secure it for their wedding day!

After Madison and Brian’s First Look, we took the Blue Figaro down to one of my favorite Charleston Alleys for their portraits.  The Easter weekend traffic was quite stressful, but we had plenty of time to photograph these two in a really quite location.  It was a dream.

And bonus, we squeezed in a few photos in front of Rainbow Row … in front of the blue house of course!!

They danced the night away to Emerald Empire Band!

After officially tying the knot, guests sat down for an incredible al fresco dinner under a cotton candy sunset.  Madison and Brian shared the sweetest choreographed first dance.  Her Jenny Yoo gown was stunning as they spun!  Toasts led to more laughter and tears and the two danced their hearts out throughout the rest of the evening!

My heart is so full of gratitude and this couple and family left a forever impression on my heart.  I’m so grateful to have been chosen to capture each and every moment and detail!

Cheers to Madison and Brian!

xo,
Jen
