Britt and Mike’s blue and white Nantucket inspired Charleston Wedding at the Pavilion at Patriots Point was one for the books! Britt never stopped smiling the entire day despite it raining all day. It didn’t just sprinkle, it down poured the entire day. But they didn’t let the rain rain on their celebration!
Always have a Rain Plan for wedding day photography and choose locations that will be beautifully photographed indoors
Britt and Mike chose the beautiful and brand new Embassy Suites Hotel that’s just at the base of the Ravenel Bridge. We had planned to take photos all around their gorgeous property, but the rain forced us to really get creative indoors. And to be honest, I loved it!
The main lobby of the Embassy Suites has large floor to ceiling windows with pink trimmed walls and blue furniture. It was perfect for Britt’s bridal portraits and photos with her bridesmaids! Because Britt and Mike chose such a beautiful getting ready space, I never thought twice about the rain!
Summerall Chapel Ceremony to the Pavilion at Patriots Point.
This was my first Charleston wedding at Patriots Point and Summerall Chapel. Both locations were very special to Mike with his military background and fit Britt’s Nantucket vibe perfectly. The ceremony was so, so lovely. The wedding coordinator shared that this was only the 3rd time in 20 years they have had to move the Sword Arch tradition inside. And we all agreed that it was so, so lovely! The Sword Arch flowed right after they had just been pronounced husband and wife!
Originally we had planned to take photos following the ceremony at Hampton Park and downtown. The rain forced us into our Plan B. I chose two alternate locations on the fly that worked beautifully and allowed us to get all the portraits and still be downtown. While the wedding party partied on the Trolley, I snuck away with Britt and Mike to Chalmers Street.
Pro Tip: Clear umbrellas make the dreamiest rainy wedding day photos!
I am absolutely smitten with Mike and Britt’s photos during their portrait time. There’s just something about the rain, the umbrellas, and the smiles just seem so, so genuine. It’s almost like the rain brings us back to the real reason for the day: two people, falling in love, and promising forever together. That alone should bring out the best of smiles. And those clear umbrellas were what made it all possible!
Fast forward to their reception held at the Pavilion at Patriots Point Links which is located on the 18th fairway of the golf course. It’s such an amazing view and so unique here in Charleston! And of course, all the Nantucket coastal vibes! Britt’s mom created monogram napkins for each guests table setting with the letter W in blue. Their seating place cards were actually oysters with each guests’ name calligraphed in gold!
And of course, the rain didn’t stop the party under the tent!Stephen Darby, the Live DJ of Darby Events, created an epic atmosphere for dinner and dancing. After cocktail hour, I took Britt and Mike out into the rain again for just a few more photos on the green. It was sooo worth it!! Needless to say, I’m so excited to share a sneak peek of my favorite photos and moments from Britt and Mike’s dreamy Charleston wedding day at the Pavillion at Patriots Point!
